Life in the Heights

A simmer pot is a delightful and natural way to fragrance your home. It’s essentially a pot filled with water and a blend of aromatic ingredients like fruits, herbs, and spices. Gently simmering this mixture on your stovetop releases the enticing scents into the air, creating a cozy and inviting ambiance. Unlike candles or artificial air fresheners, simmer pots use natural ingredients. Another benefit is that the simmering water adds moisture to the air, especially beneficial during dry winter months.

How do you use them?

  1. Fill the pot: Fill a small saucepan about 3⁄4 full with water. 2-3 cups usually will do. You can also use a crockpot or cast iron pot on your woodburning stove! Be sure not to leave unattended.
  2. Add your ingredients: Add your chosen ingredients to the pot.
  3. Bring to a simmer: Bring the pot to a boil, then reduce heat to a low simmer.
  4. Enjoy: Let the simmer pot gently release its aroma into your home. Remember to add water as needed to prevent the pot from boiling dry.
